Math Choices

  • Counting Collections- Gather small loose items like beads, dry pasta, beans, legos, cereal, etc. and place them in bags. Have your student count the items and record the total. Provide cups or bowls as tools for counts larger than 60 so your child can group items by tens and/or hundreds.

      • Be sure to count and record accurately

      • Make sure to include all items counted

  • Make ten go fish-

      • 7 cards per player

      • Pile in the middle

            • Take out face cards

      • Take turns asking another player if they have a card that you can use to make 10.

            • Ex: if you have a 4, ask a partner for a 6

      • If they have the card you need, place on the table.

      • If they don’t have it, take a card from the pile.

      • The player with the most matches at the end wins!

      • An extension: make 20 using 3 or more cards.
