Public Complaint Protocol
At St. Laurent School, we are committed to maintaining open and constructive communication with our community. If you have a concern or complaint, we encourage you to follow our structured protocol to ensure it is addressed effectively and respectfully.
Initial Contact: We ask that you first address your concern directly with the involved staff member. Most issues can be resolved through a direct conversation, which helps maintain positive working relationships.
Escalation: If your concern remains unresolved after discussing it with the staff member, we invite you to bring it to the attention of our Resource Teachers. For grades K-7, please contact Traci Turko; for grades 8-12, please reach out to Mike Young.
Further Escalation: If the issue persists, the Vice Principal, Shane Buck, will get involved to help mediate and find a resolution. His focus is on day-to-day operations and ensuring that all students and staff uphold our school's values and policies. Mr. Buck may also become involved during step 2.
Principal Review: Should the matter still not be resolved, or if it is of a particularly serious nature, the school Principal, Bobby Ellis, will personally review the situation. It is the responsibility of the Principal to ensure that our school's mission and vision align with the actions taken and to oversee the final resolutions.
We value each member of our school community and strive to address all concerns with fairness and thoroughness. Your voice is important to us, and we are here to ensure that every student's and parent's experience at St. Laurent School is positive and respectful.

Prairie Rose School Division Public Concern Protocol
Introduction: Prairie Rose School Division recognizes that, at times, parents/guardians, students, or community members may have concerns regarding division employees, school courses/programs, or general practices within the schools or division. The division is committed to addressing these concerns in a respectful, transparent, and effective manner.
Guiding Principles:
Respect and Decorum: All communications should be conducted with respect and civility.
Understanding: Parties are encouraged to seek to understand each other's perspectives.
Timeliness: Issues should be addressed promptly to avoid escalation.
Confidentiality: The rights to confidentiality of all parties involved will be respected.
Procedure:
Discuss with Staff Member:
Initially, concerns should be discussed directly with the involved staff member. This step often resolves issues quickly and effectively.
If the issue remains unresolved, or if it is not appropriate to discuss the concern with the staff member, proceed to Step 2.
Share Concern with a Supervisor:
If the concern cannot be resolved at Step 1, or if it involves a staff member, the next step is to bring the concern to the staff member’s supervisor, typically the school principal or department head.
Concerns should be presented in a timely manner, ideally within ten working days of the incident.
A Public Concern Form may be completed at this stage. Forms are available at the main office of all schools or can be downloaded from the school or division websites.
Discuss with Divisional Administrator:
If the issue is still unresolved after discussion with a supervisor, or if the supervisor is the subject of the concern, it should be brought to a divisional administrator, such as the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
An updated Public Concern Form should be submitted, and the administrator will respond, usually within ten working days.
Appeal to the Board of Trustees:
If a satisfactory resolution has not been reached after discussion with a divisional administrator, the concern can be escalated to the Board of Trustees.
This step involves presenting the concern at a regularly scheduled Board meeting. The updated Public Concern Form and any supporting documents should be submitted to the Secretary Treasurer, who will confirm the meeting details.
Appeal to the Minister of Education and Training:
If the concern remains unresolved after all previous steps, it may be escalated to the Minister of Education and Training.
The Ministry may review all pertinent documentation and provide a response.
Communication Requirements:
This protocol will be reviewed annually with all school and divisional administrators.
The Public Concern Protocol Forms are available at all division sites and online for accessibility.
