St. Laurent School Attendance Policy Summary
Regular attendance is key to student success at St. Laurent School. We are committed to working with students and families to support regular attendance and ensure that all students have the opportunity to thrive academically.
Attendance Expectations:
Daily Attendance: All students are expected to attend school regularly and be punctual. If a student will be absent, parents/guardians should notify the school by phone or email.
Monitoring: Attendance is closely monitored. If a student has 4 to 8 absences, their teacher will contact parents/guardians. For 9 to 11 absences, the In-School Support Team (ISST) will become involved. At 15 or more absences, a case manager will be assigned to work with the student and family on a plan to improve attendance.
High School Students (Grades 9-12):
Impact on Academic Success: Excessive absences can affect academic success. Students who struggle with attendance may have their timetables adjusted to prioritize essential courses.
Credit Recovery: If a high school student fails a course but has a final grade above 40%, they may be eligible for credit recovery. This allows the student to work on specific areas of weakness, rather than retaking the entire course.
Communication:
Parent Involvement: Parents/guardians are encouraged to communicate with teachers and the school administration if attendance becomes an issue. Open dialogue helps us to support the student’s return to regular attendance.
By working together, we aim to foster a positive and successful learning environment for all students. For more information on our attendance policy or support for attendance challenges, please contact the school administration.
