Thank-you to the Teacher Idea Fund

St. Laurent School would like to thank the Teachers’ Idea Fund and Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning for supporting our five-year project, Enhancing Community through Métis Cultural Exploration at St. Laurent School, which concluded in June 2026. Through this project, students participated in Michif-French language learning, drumming, cultural arts, land-based learning, Elder and Memayr teachings, student leadership opportunities, and school-wide cultural celebrations. The support from the Teachers’ Idea Fund helped strengthen Métis and Indigenous cultural learning in our school and created lasting resources, relationships, and opportunities that will continue to benefit students and our school community beyond the project. 

Harvesting Gardens!

Mrs. Crystal Millar-Courchene joined us on Oct 24 to harvest our "Raised Gardens" which is part of our Teacher Idea Fund. In these gardens, we had three of the four traditional medicines growing, including: Sage, Sweetgrass, and Ceremonial Tobacco. Unfortunately the Sweet Grass didn't survive the cold weather but she is now educating our school community around the drying process. Stay tuned!

Over the summer a group of staff came into the school and installed a sensory floor for our students. This floor has been a tremendous success and our students have been loving it. There are several themes throughout the building, including;
