Inclement Weather, School Closures & Bus Cancellations
Prairie Rose School Division may cancel school bus service or close schools when severe weather, poor visibility, extreme temperatures, highway closures, or unsafe road conditions create a safety concern.
PRSD Weather Regions
Due to the geographic size of Prairie Rose School Division, weather-related cancellations and closures may be announced by region.
Region A
Miami School
Roland School
École Carman Elementary
Carman Collegiate
Elm Creek School
Region A Hutterian Colony Schools
Region B
École St. Eustache
St. François Xavier School
St. Paul’s Collegiate

Region C
St. Laurent School
Families of St. Laurent School should therefore pay particular attention to announcements affecting Region C.
Bus Cancellations
Bus service may be cancelled because of severe snowstorms, freezing rain, poor road conditions, extreme cold, reduced visibility, or other conditions that make travel unsafe.
Weather conditions that may result in bus cancellation include temperatures of approximately -35°C or colder and/or wind chills of -45°C or colder.
Individual bus routes may also be cancelled because of localized weather or road conditions even when other buses continue to operate.
Whenever possible, morning cancellation decisions are communicated by approximately 6:30 a.m.
Bus Cancellation Does Not Always Mean School Closure
A cancellation of bus service does not necessarily mean that St. Laurent School is closed.
When buses are cancelled but the school remains open:
Parents/guardians may decide whether their child will attend school.
Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from school if they choose to send their child.
Families should ensure that transportation arrangements are safe and appropriate for current conditions.
School Closures
The Superintendent/CEO may close St. Laurent School when weather or road conditions make it unsafe for the school to operate.
A closure may apply only to Region C, to another individual region, or to the entire Prairie Rose School Division depending on conditions throughout the Division.
Communication With Families
Information regarding bus cancellations, regional cancellations, early dismissals, and school closures will be communicated through Prairie Rose School Division communication systems, including School Messenger, and will also be posted through Divisional communication channels.
Families are encouraged to ensure that their current phone number and email address are on file with the school.
Weather Changes During the School Day
If weather or road conditions deteriorate significantly during the school day, Prairie Rose School Division may cancel afternoon transportation or initiate an early dismissal.
Families should have an emergency transportation or alternate-care plan in place in case students need to be dismissed earlier than usual.
