The library is considered as the heart of every academic institution. It is a powerhouse of information and knowledge and acts as a transformer and conveys to the students, faculty and staff. The University Library is mandated to be the information resource center of excellence for the holistic development of the University and its constituents and performs a major function of supporting the teaching, learning and research needs of the University.
As the University Library continues to expand its print collection in order to provide the most reliable information sources, we strive to acquire the most usable resources for our patrons. The annual library book fair remains a popular and effective way to showcase selections for the library collection. Last October 25-28, 2022, the University Library hosted its first Annual Book Fair after two years of pandemic to allow faculty and staff do the actual book selections. The library has invited 8 books exhibitors to participate in the said event. The allotted fund for the said book fair was P3,145,500.00 which has allowed the library to invite more suppliers to display books in various disciplines for a wide variety of book selection.
The Book Fair 2022 was attended by our dynamic Chancellor Prof. Alizedney M. Ditucalan, Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Dr. Polaus M. Bari, very active chairman of the Institute Library Committee (ILC) Dean Dr. Abdullah Junior S. Mangarun and other members of the committee, Director for Administration Prof. Odessa D. Aberilla, Director for Finance Ms. Lairah O. Manan, Deans, faculty and staff.
The University Library is making steady progress towards its goal of transitioning to a predominantly hybrid library as reflected in the renewal of its online subscriptions such as Wiley Online, McGraw-Hill’s Access Engineering, American Chemical Society (ACS), Anti-Plagiarism Software (Turnitin) and library system Follett Destiny Library Manager (DLM) to support the blended learning set-up of classes in the University.
The University Library has continued the renovation and repainting of some college libraries including College of Education (CED) Library, CEBA Library, CASS Library and Main Library. The CED library was allotted a budget of P1,132,49,00.00 for its renovation. They will be the first unit library to be transformed into Learning Commons. The renovation is expected to be finished and will be opened to all students, faculty and staff on March 2023.
Last July 1, 2022, Ms. Romaida G. Ali was appointed as the new Head Librarian of the University Library. She was formerly assigned at the College of Economics, Business and Accountancy (CEBA) as the College Librarian. She is one of the librarians who were sent to University of San Carlos in 2017 under CHED K to 12 Scholarship Program to study Master of Science in Library and Information Sciences (MSLIS) and was reinstated in the University on January 2020.
The University Library was also able to hire additional three (3) library staff last October 2022 to replace personnel that were transferred to other offices. They are currently assigned at the Main Library Technical Services Division (TSD), Digitization Section, and College of Health Sciences (formerly College of Nursing) Library.
During the December 22, 2022 BOR meeting, the proposal to rename various offices of the University has been approved. Hence, the Office of the Institute Librarian was officially renamed University Library.
The University Library has conducted its Action Planning/Team-Building Activity last June 26-28, 2022 at Camiguin Island. It was there that the library personnel were able to enjoy activities that helped see each other in a different light and allow them to connect in a different setting resulting in a renewed motivation to serve the University and its constituents.

Subsequently, some University Library personnel was also able to attend the first ever Team Building activity of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs cluster. It was held at Dahilayan, Bukidnon last July 2022 and was participated by different offices under the OVCAA cluster.
For this year’s Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) Annual Congress, four (4) librarians were able to attend, held at Iloilo Convention Center last November 22-25, 2022. This congress was one of the best venue for the librarians to discuss best practices and library resilience in the face of disruption caused by outbreaks/pandemic, and highlighted examples of library resilience during these unprecedented times, including evidence of the library’s roles in providing research assistance to clients.
As the university has opened its doors to welcome students once again after the pandemic, the University Library continues to improve and promote its services and resources to students inside the university, classes, and beyond. Even after pandemic, it continues to provide online reference services to its users using its Facebook Page and email address. It also extended its library service hours from 40 hours a week to 58 hours. The library is now open from Monday to Friday 8:00AM to 6:00PM (No Noon Break) and Saturday 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
True to its mandate of providing information resources to the University, the library continues to add print resources to its collection through acquisition and donation. For this year, the library has added a total of 329 volumes of printed books, journals and magazines to its collections through purchase and 479 volumes through donations. Below is the summary of the total library holdings by unit libraries and by discipline.
The University Library continues to participate in the accreditation of different programs of the University by providing comprehensive reports and documents for AACCUP for the College of Arts and Sciences (CASS), College of Health Sciences, College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CEBA). Aside from the AACCUP accreditation, the library has also actively participated in the preparation of documents for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Certification and Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) for CHED.
The University Library maintains its strong partnership and membership with different professional organizations for libraries such as Consortium of Engineering Libraries in the Philippines (CELPh), Academic Libraries Information Network in Mindanao, Inc. (ALINET), Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools Library Network (MASTSLiNet), Content Digitization and Development and Content Management System of the Integrated Philippine Libraries (iPel) Project, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)-Ozamis Branch. Furthermore, another partnership was formed this year with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao which donated a total of four hundred seventy-nine (479) book titles last March 17, 2022 to the University Library.
