Proctor Resources

Being a Proctor in Harvey Mudd College’s Machine Shop is not a desk job. It is an opportunity to learn and reinforce your machining experience through teaching others. It is an opportunity to see dozens of ways to make the same part, and processes for making parts you've never even thought of. Think of this as a chance to reinforce and internalize the skills you learned in E4.

Perhaps more importantly, you are responsible for the students working in the Machine Shop. You were hired to keep students safe and keep the work environment ordered and clean. You will work with shop users that range from the next generation of naïve E4 students to the forgetful, geriatric Clinic students, and everything else in between.

You are among the most experienced students at HMC, and we have confidence that you will perform your duties with enthusiasm and dedication. If you ever have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We want to keep the Machine Shop a safe, efficient, and educational environment — but we need your help to do so.

If you are interested in applying to be a Machine Shop Proctor, look for an email from a member of the machine shop management team towards the end of each semester!
