(Mac and Windows)

List of Useful Programs

On your own computer:

  • Solidworks (Windows only)

    • Industry-standard computer-aided design software. Email Drew for a license. (Highly recommended)

  • Matlab

    • Engineering data analysis, simulation, calculation; anything you want it to do, there's probably a toolbox for it. (Recommended)

  • GrabCAD

    • Transfer large CAD projects between devices and share with teams

  • Ultimaker Cura

    • Free slicer software for translating CAD models into Gcode

Remote computing:

  • Solidworks

    • Industry-standard computer-aided design software

  • HSMExpress

    • Computer-adied machining tool to generate gcode for CNC machining

  • Adobe Illustrator

    • Creating and exporting DXF/DWG files for laser cutting

    • Note: The shop now recommends Illustrator instead of EngraveLab

  • COMSOL

    • Simulate physics and chemistry, such as drag, flow, stretch, chemical reactions, etc.

  • Matlab

    • Industry-standard computer-aided design software.

  • GrabCAD

    • Transfer large CAD projects between devices and share with teams

  • CES EduPack

    • View physical, chemical, and electrical properties for a large library of materials, and generate material selection charts
