Spindle Sander

Spindle sanders consist of a rotating cylinder (the spindle) that holds a tube of sandpaper. The spindle moves up and down as it rotates, removing material from the workpiece by abrasion. The spindle sander works best when a part is placed flat on the work surface of the spindle sander. The workpiece is then pushed against the spindle in short passes to remove material. Different spindle sizes are available in the shop. You should use the spindle sander for your hammer handle once you have cut the outline using the vertical bandsaw. This machine creates a lot of sawdust, so use the shopvac.
