Earning Credits for Courses

Earning Credit for Courses

  • Credit in Hays CISD is earned by semester

  • To receive credit for a semester only course, a student must pass the class with a grade of a 70 or higher

  • Each semester grade stands alone for GPA calculations and is posted to the official transcript with the appropriate credit awarded.

  • To receive credit for a full year course (2 semesters), students must pass each semester with a grade of a 70 or higher

    • OR students who fail one semester of the 2 semester course can pass for the year and receive the full credit if the two semester grades average out to a grade of 70 or higher for the year.

    • Important:

      • Both semesters of the year long course must be taken within the same academic school year for it to average out and the student receive credit

      • The failing semester grades are posted to the transcript

        • If a student completes credit recovery for the course, then the credit recovery grade will also be posted to the transcript in order to show the student earned the credit.

    • All attempted courses will be posted to transcript

    • If a course is repeated, the first earned credit is recorded on the transcript.

        • For example: A student takes professional communications at JHS and later takes it through ACC for Dual Credit. The credit was earned for the course at JHS first and that will be the credit in which the GPA points are earned.

        • Student can not repeat a class for a better grade or to increase their GPA

    • A student can be denied credit due to excessive absences. The hours will need to be made up in order for the student to earn the credit for the course or courses.
