Create a new folder in your Documents named something like: lastname_classname_podcast
Move all of the files you are going to use into the folder, including any music files you have downloaded. If you haven’t recorded or downloaded anything, that’s fine.
Open Adobe Audition
Select File → New → Multitrack Session. You’ll be presented with a pop-up window. Name your project lastname_classname_podcast and save it into your project folder.
This is very important! Audition will make a folder, with the name of your project, that will hold all of your recordings and edits. Make sure you know where this folder is.
Audition has many different program configurations, which we call Workspaces. In the top menu, go to Window > Workspace > Default to make sure your workspace looks like mine.
The main pieces in the Workspace that we'll use are the File manager, the Tools, and the Timeline.
Audition offers two editing environments: Multitrack view for assembling recordings on a timeline and mixing them together and Waveform view for making changes to individual files. Editing views are ways of working with audio within a workspace.
Most of this guide involves working with multitrack view. If you double-click a file, and end up in Waveform, move back into Multitrack by clicking in the Project panel on the left or on the view buttons in the upper left.
The rest of the guide will make more sense if you have a practice sound file to play around with. Locate any .mp3 or .wav you have on your computer or download this file here: .mp3 practice file
