Part of why podcasts are so popular is that most of us have everything we need to record right at our fingertips. As a member of the Clemson community, you also have access to a variety of recording equipment that the Library offers.
The Adobe Digital Studio has an audio studio available for anyone in the Clemson community. The studio can be reserved online at least 24 hours in advance. For immediate use, stop by the Studio during support hours.
The audio studio is ready for podcasting, with two microphones, headphones, and a computer with Adobe Audition installed. Most importantly, it is soundproof! So no worrying about your noisy neighbors or barking dog.
Did you know that you can borrow technology equipment from Clemson Libraries? Equipment can be borrowed for three days at a time from the main desk at Cooper Library. You can reserve the equipment online ahead of time to ensure that it's available.
The Zoom audio recorder is a compact, simple recording device. Controls may be confusing to someone unfamiliar with audio equipment, so follow instructions below for use.
Clemson Libraries has a podcast kit that you can check out if you want to take your podcast to the next level. It includes two vocal microphones and cables to connect. Also check out a Zoom H4n to use as the audio recording device.
Most (all?) of us have smartphones! That means you have a great recorder in your pocket.
On iPhones, you can use the voice memos app and the phone microphone to record. Remember that on most phones, the microphone is located at the bottom of the phone. Be sure the microphone is facing your interviewee during the interview.
More tips on recording with phones on the next page.
You can also use the microphone on your laptop to record yourself. You can use voice memos app on your laptop, too, or record directly into Adobe Audition. The Podcast Editing section of the guide explains how to set up Adobe Audition to record.
Remember that we recommended that the microphone be as close as possibe to the person talking? If you have bluetooth headphones that have a built in microphone (like AirPods), you can get pretty good audio recordings even when in a noisy space. This is particularly good if you're moving during the recording.
