Boston University Summer Journalism Institute - The New England Center for Investigative Reporting presents a once-in-a-lifetime experience for high school students interested in journalism, communications or writing. The program gives students ages 14 to 18 the opportunity to expand their skills, experience college life and explore Boston.

Each instructor is also a working journalist, so what’s taught is grounded in real-life experience. Each lesson is tied to its practical application, by giving students reporting assignments on campus and in the city. Each day is an opportunity to taste what’s it like to work in the news field, live on a campus, and make new friends from all over the country.

California Scholastic Press Association Workshop - The CSPA Workshop is the longest-running and most successful high school journalism workshop in the country. Our graduates have gone on to work for the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register, Forbes, The Associated Press, ESPN, CBS, Fox and other nationally recognized media outlets.

Each summer, 25 students are selected to receive hands-on instruction in the areas of print, broadcast, online and photojournalism, plus classes in ethics, public records and more. They will tour the local newspaper office and television station and enjoy an afternoon at the beach. this camp runs for 13 days and is held on the campus of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

JCamp - JCamp brings a multicultural group of high school students together for six days of intensive journalism training. Students will learn from professional journalists and get hands-on training in writing, photography, television broadcasting, online media, and reporting. Sessions and workshops will be led by experienced journalists from some of the top media companies in the industry. Students with a strong interest in broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, photojournalism or online media are encouraged to apply. The program is designed for high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors; since 2001, over 700 high school students have graduated from JCamp. Every year, AAJA receives hundreds of applications from all regions of the country. Students selected for the program have all costs covered including airfare, campus housing and meals.

Medill Cherubs - Cherubs is more than a journalism camp. From high schools around the world, we come to Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. We immerse ourselves in media for five weeks. We study writing, reporting and editing for print, digital and broadcast. We take pictures, edit videos, and create websites and podcasts. We make lifelong friends. As our instructors say, “Welcome to the best summer of your life.”

Newsroom by the Bay - Held at Stanford University, our program blends journalism basics with 21st century digital literacy and multimedia training. We’ll help you become a better storyteller, team member and leader; inspire you to launch or improve a journalism program at your school; and offer you a chance to experience one of the most beautiful university campuses in the world. Grades 10-12 (ages 15-18).

The Princeton University Summer Journalism Program - We welcome 35-40 high school students from low-income backgrounds every summer to Princeton's campus for an intensive, 10-day seminar on journalism. The program's goal is to diversify college and professional newsrooms by encouraging outstanding students from low-income backgrounds to pursue careers in journalism. All expenses, including students' travel costs to and from Princeton, are paid for by the program. Students who attend the program come from across the country.

Summer Journalism Workshop - The Columbia Scholastic Press Association's annual Summer Journalism Workshop will be held on the historic campus of Columbia University in the City of New York. Take part in a learning experience like no other, where you will improve your skills, rethink your publishing strategies and take your media game to the next level - all while in "the media capital of the world". Each student or adviser participant will be required to register for a particular class sequence, focusing on either writing, editing, management or advanced design. Registration for this five-day intensive program is limited to 200 participants, with a waiting list to be maintained once the limit has been reached.
