What counts as knowledge?
My driver’s license counts as knowledge because it shows that I am trusted by the law to legally drive on the roads of America. Not only the does the driver’s license counts as knowledge, but the road it took to actually get the license counts as well. The endless hours of driving school, to actually getting behind the wheel, observing, and preparing for the actual test proves why my driver’s license counts as knowledge. When getting my driver’s license, it took me three tries to finally get the license. After the first attempt, I was heartbroken, but I took the critiques the instructor gave me and practiced more to prepare for my second try. After failing again on the second attempt, I was upset and felt angry, but those feelings didn’t stop me from trying one last time. After a couple more weeks of practice, I went back for my third attempt, and it was finally then, that the DPS granted me a driver’s license. My driver’s license answers the question because I learned a lot through all three road tests. It was through those three tests that I was able to learn more about how to truly be a safer driver by fixing mistakes that could lead me to getting into an accident. With my driver’s license, I have learned so much about having even more responsibilities in the world. Different perspectives may argue that a driver’s license does not answer the question because some people just skip through the criteria in the driver’s ed book just so they can get on the road faster. In that case, it would be evident that a driver’s license may not answer the question, but the objective of actually having the license opens your eyes to a whole new realm of responsibilities a person gains by getting a license.
My Black Lives Matter t-shirt counts as knowledge, not simply because of the history behind the whole BLM movement, but because of my own experiences and why I got the shirt in the first place. Every 4th of July, since I moved from Tennessee, I go back to visit family in both Nasvhille and Memphis. It was the summer of 2020 were my aunt decided to take us to the National Civil Rights Museum. This museum is the location of where Dr. Martin Luther King Junior was assassinated in 1968. It was in this museum as the tour guide showed us around that I learned more about black history and culture. From starting in a room where there were high graphics of blacks being boarded onto a boat, I already felt uncomfortable. Of course, I had previously learned about these types of things in a regular history class, but the difference of teachings really had an emotional toll on me. As the tour continued, I learned more about the struggle blacks went through in a brand new perspective. When the tour was finished and we were in the giftshop, I was immediately drawn to the BLM merchandise. After the tour and the George Floyd protests, I realized that it is very important for me to speak out against foul actions like racism, and I thought what better way then wearing a shirt that states “Black Lives Matter” with a hat that says so as well. Now I can say that after that purchase I have been more active and not tolerated anything regarding racism towards blacks or anyone in that case. Different perspectives may argue and disagree that this certain t-shirt may not answer the question because the movement only includes one race, but the reality is the movement is so gigantic because blacks are targetted this most, especialy in a white-dominant America. This shirt answers the question because of the experiences, not just mines, but all including those who have fought to bring awareness and make a change.
My work hat counts as knowledge because iHOP is my first ever job and I have learned so much about the workfield through this job. It is also through this job that i got my Food Handler’s License. Being a server as a midteen has its ups and downs. I got the hat a few months after getting the job. This job has opened my eyes to the real-world even more because I have been through a lot at this job. Hired June 10, 2021, and still currently working there, I have seen lots and encountered lots of people. Through this job, I have gotten into arguments with coworkers, encountered racism in the workfield, gotten in trouble with my manager, almost quit, and so much more, but through this job I have learned who you can truly trust, made great relationships with coworkers, have fun times at work, enjoyed serving food to people, learned how to cook the food on our menu, and more. Wearing my work hat every shift and going through all of those experiences shows that this hat counts as knowledge. I have learned things from my job that I apply to the real-world. This job has taught me so many things about life and how the workfield operates. I have learned the importance of filing taxes through this job, the importance of communication, the importance of the saying “the customer is always right”, and so many other things. Different perspectives might disagree that this hat doeesn’t answer the question, but it is through this commentary that proves why this hat answers the question. My iHOP hat counts as knowledge because firsts job bring on new challenges and experiences, and since knowledge is all about experience according to its definition, this hat is justified as an object for this particular question.
