What is the relationship between personal experience and knowledge?
My black and white Vans shoes that I wear to school are an answer to this question. This object is something that I use almost every day to go places without hurting my feet. It represents not only how I have gone to many places but also my journey throughout life and the experiences I have gained while wearing these shoes. By going to places in these shoes, it represents how I have gained knowledge and experience at each place I have visited and how my knowledge has evolved over time. The more places I have gone to, the more my knowledge about the world has developed and changed with the exposure to new knowledge. They also represent how I would like to go to new places and explore what they have to offer because shoes are very durable and they last a long time like the experiences and knowledge I have gained, because once I have experienced them I will remember them for the rest of my life. The connection between personal experiences and knowledge are displayed in my black and white Vans shoes because personal experience is often obtained by doing new things that are outside of our comfort zone and things that we may not particularly agree with. It also reflects how the knower broadens their knowledge about the world through the things that they experience. They also gain insight into the different viewpoints of those around the world because they too have several personal experiences based on things that they have done. It is at that point where I can step into the shoes of another person and experience the things that they experience daily and the knowledge that they have gained through doing so.
My Prismacolor pencils that I use to color my drawing are another answer to this question. I use this object during my art process when I want to give color to my drawings and experiment with color schemes. My colored pencils represent my art experience and how it has influenced the way I think about and do art, and how my processes and techniques have evolved due to my exposure to different knowledge. It also represents how I constantly want to try new things with art and develop new techniques to improve my artwork. My experience with art is a result of the knowledge I have gained about artistic techniques and methods to achieve certain effects as well as my own experimentation with mediums. Although there are a lot of things about art that I do not know about, the more I experience within the art world, like experimenting with new mediums or using familiar materials in new ways, the more my knowledge about art develops and grows. The strong correlation between personal experience and knowledge is shown in my artistic journey and through these colored pencils because the more I have experimented with my colored pencils the more knowledge I have gained about the medium. Though artistic knowledge is only a small part of the total knowledge I have gained throughout life, that artistic knowledge does play a huge role in how I perceive the world and how I form my beliefs. The principle of trial and error that the knower exhibits through the colored pencils can also be applied to other areas of knowledge because often knowledge is gained accidentally or through trying something over and over again until it is perfected. This can especially be seen in my colored pencils because I learned how to use them myself and I had to go through much trial and error before I could comfortably use my colored pencils in my artwork.
My black bag that I carry with me every day is a final answer to this question. This object is important to me in my everyday life because I use it to store my phone, car keys, and other everyday essentials as well as my sketchbook and pencil case for school. It represents my experiences that I have accumulated throughout life because every experience I have gained is stored in a metaphorical bag that I carry with me every day, like my black bag. Bags are usually representative of something that houses multiple things that help us live our lives smoothly, and this bag not only carries my everyday essentials but also the knowledge and the experiences I have gained throughout life. There is a strong connection between personal experiences and knowledge as represented through my black bag because the more I experience with this bag and the more experiences I add to this bag the broader my knowledge about the world becomes and the more I want to develop my knowledge. This metaphorical and literal bag that I carry around everywhere is significant to the way I obtain knowledge because it is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life because knowledge is something that is permanently obtained through experiences, and it can be changed by discovering new knowledge that conflicts with what has already been established. This bag does not house any specific area of knowledge, and for that reason it is a perfect way to represent how all knowledge gained by the knower through personal experience is kept and can be used again at any point throughout life. Therefore, the correlation between personal experience and knowledge is that both can be stored and used at any point in time and both can help me understand the world around us based on what I have already experienced.
