What constraints are there on the pursuit of knowledge?
In my opinion one of the reasons for the constraint of knowledge is having advanced technology. That might sound weird but let me explain. If there is an object that has two versions and one of them is more advanced than the other. You are going to pick the more advanced one and that will limit your knowledge because you don't know how to make the older object function.
My object is my red toyota rav 4. The reason why this object constrains my knowledge is because this car is an automatic and due to that reason my knowledge on driving a manual car is constrained. So whenever a time comes where I would need to drive a manual car. It would take me a great amount of time to learn since my knowledge in the manual car field is limited. But that's the thing that comes with human advancement. As objects advance and new technologies emerge, people will eventually forget about the old technology and move on to a more advanced technology like my red toyota rav 4. Forgetting that old technology also might constrain human knowledge as a whole because sometimes you need to take a couple of steps backwards in order to go forwards meaning that in order to advance or solve a problem in technology we sometimes need to go back to the roots but it will be more difficult to go back to the roots if we are forgetting about it day and day. Thus having advanced technology does restrict our knowledge just like how my red automatic toyota rav 4 constraints my knowledge on manual cars and how to drive them.
Another item that constrains my knowledge is my Philips coffee machine. This advanced piece of technology does my coffee for me, it grinds up the beans, knows the recipes, and all I have to do is click a button or two. This is another example of how advanced technology constrains knowledge. Due to this reason I will never know how to make a latte from scratch or how to make a frappuccino all by myself. My Philips coffee machine constraints my knowledge because it doesn't make it a necessity for me to learn how to make a latte when it makes it for me. When it comes to a time where I will need to make a latte without my coffee machine, I will struggle to do so due to this constraint of my knowledge that my coffee machine presents me with. That is another reason why advanced technology constraints human knowledge just like my coffee machine. Advanced technology nowadays does everything for you without it requiring you to know about the topic just like my coffee machine, my coffee machine does not require me to know how to make a latte in order to make the latte. I just need to know how to press a couple of buttons on my coffee machine to make myself a latte. This is another reason how advanced technology results in constrained knowledge in humans. As technology advances it becomes less of a necessity for humans to expand their knowledge on certain skills or topics just like how my coffee machine sets a barrier for me to learn how to make a latte since it does it for me and it's not only lattes it also filters and grinds up my coffee which also constraints my knowledge on how to filter a coffee since I don't need to learn it.
Another one of my objects is my computer. Anytime I need to know something about a subject or a topic, I always use my macbook to research so that my depth of knowledge can be deeper in that subject or topic, but the thing is my macbook contains so much information that sometimes telling right from wrong gets challenging. There is millions of uncertified information that pops up everytime I search a topic on my macbook and it can be challenging sometimes to know if the information is certified or not. Humanities reach over technology has expanded a great deal that anyone accessible to a computer or a mobile device can type and submit their train of thought or opinions even if it is proven to be false and there is even a high probability that what I believe something on a topic or a subject I searched is proven to be false. And that is not the only constraint that my macbook has on my knowledge. Since every topic I decide to research is on my macbook my potential for further expanding my knowledge on a topic or a subject will be limited if i cannot access my macbook. For example if I was stranded out in the middle of an island I wouldn't be able to access my macbook and due to that reason it would take me a longer amount of time on how to figure out how to survive on my own then on my computer. A person that has low access to advanced technology is able to figure out solutions to a problem faster than I could in that situation. Because not being able to access a technology requires a human to use common sense and not only that but it also helps them become a quick problem solver since they don't have frequent access to a mobile device. But for me since I have frequent access it will take me longer to problem solve thus contributing to my constraint of knowledge on survival. In summary one of the main reasons for human constraints on knowledge is advanced technology.
