Contributions via iNaturalist
Contributing through iNaturalist, I learned that every observation adds value by documenting when and where species occur. These small acts of noticing collectively support biodiversity research and strengthen public connections with the natural world. I also find that this form of citizen science integrates naturally with personal well-being. During walks in nature, a favorite way for me to reflect and recharge, I sometimes pause to take photos of a plant, tree, or animal that draws my attention - and then upload the image to iNaturalist. Each shared observation becomes a trace of curiosity, care, and contribution.
I use iNaturalist as both a tool for exploration and a space for exchange. Its collaborative nature enables users to identify species, share expertise, and learn from one another’s discoveries. What begins as a photo often turns into a participatory learning experience - one that expands personal awareness while advancing collective understanding of biodiversity. For me, integrating digital tools like iNaturalist into my photography practice bridges education, community engagement, and visual storytelling. When I capture images of landscapes and living beings, my goal is not only to document beauty but also to evoke curiosity and appreciation for the ecosystems around us. By sharing these insights online, I contribute to a global network of learning and research - helping educators and organizations communicate the importance of environmental awareness and sustainable living through authentic, data-informed visuals.
Science conversations at Café Scentifique
Participating in the Café Scientifique community has been a source of inspiration for me over several years. I find the format both stimulating and refreshing. Complex scientific or societal topics are explored not least through open conversations that invite curiosity and genuine exchange. The themes discussed - often touching on innovation, ethics, sustainability, and how science shapes our daily lives - feel deeply relevant for understanding and advancing the ways we live and work. What makes these gatherings particularly meaningful for me is their informal atmosphere. Sitting together over a cup of coffee or tea dissolves hierarchy and formality, creating a space where everyone’s curiosity has equal weight. The emphasis is, I experience, not least on asking thoughtful questions, listening carefully, and building on one another’s perspectives. I value this culture of shared exploration, where ideas take shape collectively, and participants bring insights from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Engaging in small‑group conversations during Café Scientifique events continually reminds me how dialogue itself can be a catalyst for learning, creativity, and community.
Work via IdeaConnection
Collaborating with other researchers to find solutions to complex challenges has been a source of deep learning and personal growth. With gratitude I look back on two research and innovation projects that I worked on with other researchers via IdeaConnection:
Modulating chemical concentrations at polymer surfaces.
Identifying candidate chemicals for effective and selective rodent control.
Working on these two research and innovation challenges with other researchers strengthened my ability to combine analytical thinking with communication and teamwork - skills that continue to shape my approach to research and innovation today. More specifically, I improved, through these research and innovation challenges, my skills in active collaboration, communication, and creative problem-solving, while contributing in ways such as these:
Asking questions and exchanging ideas with solution seekers and team members using digital tools such as IdeaConnection, Zoom, Google Meet, and email.
Contributing to research and ideation, for example, by supporting the research process by applying generative AI tools to explore concepts, identify patterns, and generate new insights.
Offering feedback to team members to help refine ideas and strengthen project outcomes.
Facilitating understanding during disagreements by initiating open conversations aimed at restoring collaboration and mutual respect.
Enhancing the readability and consistency of research reports by clarifying chapter titles, applying appropriate headers, and correcting errors.
Improving document design through the use of relevant visuals, descriptive table titles, clear bullet lists, and alignment with specified font and formatting requirements.
