One day in 1999, I visited the library in Lystrup near Aarhus in Denmark one day to do some research. A notice at the library caught my attention. It was about a campaign aimed at helping refugees from the former Yugoslavia. Interested in learning more about the challenge, I reached out to the organizers, a small group of Kaospilot graduates. Soon after, I joined the pioneering initiative. Thanks to a remarkable community effort supported by a large number of citizens in Aarhus, we managed to raise more than DKK 1 million to support refugees. Collaborating with the Kaospilot graduates was an inspiring experience, which taught me a great deal about initiative, creative thinking, teamwork, and social responsibility. Thank you.
Over the past few years, I have been contributing financially through EcoMatcher to support tree planting initiatives around the world. Why? Because I learned that planting trees is one of the most effective natural technologies for carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration. Trees help prevent soil erosion, restore biodiversity, and provide vital habitats for pollinators that are essential to global food security. In addition, tree planting through EcoMatcher creates meaningful work for smallholder farmers, helping families improve their livelihoods and gain access to education and healthcare. I appreciate being part of an initiative that connects environmental action with social empowerment.
What I appreciated most about participating in the crowdfunding for The Lost Birds was the rare opportunity for crowdfunders to take part in online sessions and offer direct feedback to the creative team. This inclusive approach invited backers into the heart of the artistic process and fostered a genuine sense of shared ownership. The thoughtfully designed initiative allowed contributors to listen live to work‑in‑progress tracks - featuring the wonderful voices of VOCES8 - while sharing real-time reflections with the composer and fellow supporters. This level of interactivity transformed crowdfunding from a simple act of fincial contribution into a true artistic collaboration. Thank you for making that possible.
