For HR to set up a new starter we need the correct right to work documentation. The most common documents are a British/Irish passport on its own, or a full birth certificate with an official document showing their national insurance number. Following legislative changes introduced after Brexit, the requirements for verifying a candidate's right to work in the UK were updated. Since 1st July 2021, an EU, EEA, or Swiss passport alone is no longer sufficient to prove a right to work for potential new hires.
These requirements apply to all non-UK and non-Irish citizens.
UK and Irish citizens: Your passport remains a valid, standalone document for right to work checks. No additional documentation is required.
If you are not a UK or Irish citizen, you must provide one of the following to confirm your immigration status:
Online Verification (Preferred): Provide your Date of Birth and a 'Share Code' generated via the gov.uk website. This allows us to verify your status digitally and securely.
Original Documentation: Present your original visa or immigration documents that explicitly state your right to work in the UK.
