June is the month chosen to celebrate pride as it was the month of the Stonewall riots, the protests that changed gay rights for a lot of people in America and beyond. Pride is about uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, a celebration of culture and support of LGBTQ+ rights. Pride month is an opportunity for recognition, teaching tolerance, education, history and continuing to move forward in equality. It calls for people to come together in love and friendship. For us to remember how damaging hate, prejudice and discrimination was and still can be today. It's all about being proud of who you are and being confident to bring your authentic self to work!
The A-Z of Inclusion training will allow you to gain insight and skills in addressing the needs of LGBTQ+ guests and gain confidence in dealing with heterosexism, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. The session will cover:
Introductions, group agreement, agenda overview
LGBTQ identities, terminology and inclusive language
Unpacking Straight / Cisgender Privilege
Trans identities
Pronouns, misgendering and what to do if you’ve made a mistake
Case study - Challenging discrimination when you see it
Case study - Supporting trans customers in retail
Question and answer throughout
Dr Sophie Cook FRSA became the first transgender woman to work in football’s Premier League as club photographer for AFC Bournemouth following her transition from Steve to Sophie in the summer of 2015. She has since developed her career being a keynote speaker for companies liked JP Morgan and Virgin Media as well as being invite to deliver a TEDx Talk.
Sharing her personal story, its highs and its lows, Sophie will explain how struggling with her gender identity led to a lifetime of mental health difficulties. Sophie adds a human face to the trans identity and demystifies gender non-conformity to tap into the empathy of her audience giving them the "why" required to make them great allies.
Sophie backs this up with practical tips and exercises to help people understand the use of pronouns, trans terminology and how to support trans colleagues and clients.
All of Sophie's sessions include a "no limits/nothing out of bounds" Q&A that allows her audience to unpack some of their preconceptions in a totally safe and non-judgemental environment
