For meal purchases, please make sure your child has adequate funds available in MyPaymentsPlus for the last month of school. They can also bring in cash or a check to cover their meal purchase. Starting Monday, May 6 through the end of the school year, students without adequate funds will receive a courtesy snack.

Next week, our ELA students will begin working on their exciting Unit 7 Greek Mythology project, with presentations scheduled for the last week of school.
If any of your students will not be present during the final week, please ensure they inform their teacher in advance. It is crucial that they present before they leave for the year, as this project will be counted towards a summative grade.
Moreover, I kindly ask you to check IC for any missing assignments that students may need to submit.

Accelerated:
The week of May 6th, Accelerated Math will wrap up their study of the Laws of Exponents with a summative exam on May 10. The following week, there will be a benchmark exam which will count as two formative grades. There will not be a final exam this year.

May 10: Laws of Exponents Summative Exam
May 14-15: Accelerated Math Benchmark Exam (formative 2x)
May 23: Last Day of School (early release)
Avanced:
Students wrapped up Unit 7 – Data and Statistics, with their summative test on Wednesday, May 1st. We are now working on our last unit, Unit 8 – Multistep Equations. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday, May 8th and we will wrap up the unit with our final summative assessment on Friday, May 17th.
On-level:

Sixth grade scientists are wrapping up the school year with a unit on meteorology ! We are learning about the layers of the atmosphere with a quiz on Wednesday, 5/1. Then, we jump into winds and storms. Students will be working through a Kesler unit on hurricanes for a more in-depth exploration. The unit test is on Friday, 5/10. Then we head for review for our final that’s on Friday, 5/17.
This week in Social Studies:
We completed our study of the Latin American region with our summative on history, government and economics.
We began our last region of study for the year on Australia starting with learning about its geography.

We had another BINDER check last week – the students have done well with keeping up with their binders. They are in the home stretch! We are also VERY proud of them for working so hard during Milestones!
We continue The Young Ben Franklin podcast, working on taking great notes. Their formative will be just a check on their notes from each episode. Their summative they will be able to use their notes.
We are excited to read the book FLIPPED by Wendelin Van Draanen starting next week! Please have your child order one, or get one from the library!
Healthcare Science:
6th grade will be learning about Therapeutic Diets.
7th Grade will be exploring HIPAA.
8th Grade is completing a Shark Tank career project and working on Medical Terminology.

Nurse Notes
End of School Year Medication Pick up – Please come pick up your child’s unused medication from the clinic between the hours of 8:30am and 4:15pm. Medication pick-up will begin Monday, May 6th, and continue through the last day of school. If medication is not picked up by 2pm on Thursday, May 23rd, it will be considered abandoned. Abandoned medication will be destroyed in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. We do NOT keep any meds in the clinic over the summer.
Rising 7th Grade Immunizations Required - ALL students entering the 7th grade are required to have received both the Tdap Booster (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) and the Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV4) prior to the first day of their 7th grade school year. An updated 3231 form with these newly given immunizations documented must be on file with us prior to August 1st, 2024. Please contact your physician or the Forsyth County Health Department as soon as possible to complete the necessary immunizations.
