We wish everyone a wonderful spring break! When we return, we will begin our new unit focused on informational elements and structure.
ELA Milestones: Monday, April 22 & Tuesday, April 23
Accelerated:
We made it to Spring Break! After the holiday, we will begin our unit on Statistics. Students will want a calculator for this unit. A four-function calculator is fine.
Here are a couple reminders for after the break:
Please stock your child up with paper and pencils. Supplies are running low. A few erasers will also be helpful.
Keep an eye on your child's course average for Accelerated Math. Students will need an 85% course average at the end of the semester to continue in accelerated math.
Advanced:
Students are currently in the middle of our unit on data and statistics. We will have our second quiz on Thursday, April 11th. After that, we will be reviewing for Milestones and working on an in-class project related to our current unit. The data and statistics summative will be scheduled after Milestones testing is completed.
4/11 – Unit 7, Quiz 2 (Graphs)
4/15-4/19 – GMAS Review and In-Class Project
4/22-4/23 – ELA GMAS
4/24 – Math GMAS

Our 6th grade scientists have wrapped up their unit on hydrology and will be diving into our next unit on the ocean. They will be studying currents, tides, and waves. We will also be touching on some of the ocean topography. Our tentative summative test date is April 17th. Have a fabulous SPRING BREAK!!
We completed our unit on Latin America Geography with writing a Free Response Question (FRQ) on the deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest and our summative test.
Next up, when we return from Spring Break we will begin learning about Latin American history.
We hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing, fun and safe Spring Break!!
We finished up our Paired Text unit and this week we are focusing on Book Review. The students are picking a book independently that they would like to review. They have been given several choices on how to “review” the book, and we will use this week to work on these. We will present them to the class after Spring Break! We can’t wait to see their creativity!

Hi everyone! This semester, 6th grade is doing some career exploration. Forsyth County uses YouScience which is a tool students use to discover their interests, aptitudes, and career possibilities. In 6th grade, students are taking a career interest survey which helps them discover three types of work that interest them. The goal of YouScience is to help students uncover and understand their natural abilities and find the career paths that will best use those talents. Parents are encouraged to have students login to YouScience and show you their results. This a great opportunity to connect with your student and have a discussion of future career opportunities. If your child took a CTAE connection last semester, they may have completed the survey in that class. If your child does not have their results ready, they can log in and complete this required task at home.
We hope everyone has a great and restful spring break. Take some time next week to reconnect with your family. Whether you are going on vacation or simply enjoying time at home, take some time to put away phones, computers, etc., and spend time with each other. Find something meaningful you can all do together!
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to me anytime, and we appreciate your continued support! Happy spring break!

Important Update: The CDC changed the Covid-19 quarantine period from 5 days to 24-hours fever free, without the use of fever reducing medications, as well as an overall improvement in symptoms. With this announcement, FCS has updated their Guidance Related to Viruses and Infections document which can be found on the district website under Student Support – Health Services – Health Related Resources. All illnesses (including respiratory viruses/infections) will have the same guidance related to returning to school and/or work. This is consistent for both our students and staff.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities:
Sign up HERE if you would like to volunteer throughout the school year.
We love our SFMS teachers! To our new parents, Welcome!! Each month we try to do something special to let our teachers know all of their hard work is appreciated! This second 1/2 of the year we would like to cover lunch duty on the following dates with volunteer parents:
April 18- International Potluck provided by parents
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080944AEAC28A4FB6-48538520-international
Volunteers stand in the cafeteria for an hour and let the kids know when to head back to class. You will be with 7 other volunteers and maybe get to embarrass your child! It is super easy! This gives the teachers a quiet time to enjoy lunch and it is a much appreciated way to give back. If you can’t come during school hours, please consider donating soft drinks for our teachers. You can send these in with your student and drop off at the main office. There is a slot for these on the sign up as well.

THANK YOU
Thank you to Sheba Naqvi, www.baldridgefamilypractice.com, for providing Wednesday's lunch for our teachers and thank you to all of the parents who volunteered during Duty Free Lunch!
Students will be familiarizing themselves with the platform used for Georgia Milestones End of Course and End of Grade Tests. Feel free to access this site with your child to get used to the testing platform.
Testing Calendar is subject to change.
If a student does not take their final, they will receive a zero (missing) for that assessment.
