We have been lucky to continue to get sponsorships so that our students can enjoy this very engaging and valuable camp program for all grades every year.
Land-based learning is an approach that recognizes the deep connection and relationship of Indigenous peoples to the Land. We will offer land based learning that is based on Indigenous knowledge and pedagogy.Â
 Through this approach we hope to foster a sense of belonging, a connection to culture and a positive self identity for our First Nation, Metis and Inuit students as well as a rich learning experience for all of our students.

Grade 10-12 Students were back at Kinosis for their final camp of the year;
15 students from Comp, Westwood and Franks Spragins.
They spent a lot of time talking about how the land can and will provide, if we respect and connect with it. They discussed a number of key plants, their health and nutritional benefits and what reciprocity is. They even discussed how this knowledge can open gateways for future opportunities for entrepreneurship and careers. Everyone had a great sleep in their Tipis. They smudged the medicine bears they made the night before and explored the land in search of the plants they have been learning about. They made a fireweed and rose peddle salve to take home, a horse tail hair rinse and built their own water filtration system from the land.Â
There was a lot of appreciation and gratitude for each other, the teachings and the overall experience in our close out sharing circle
This winter, Dave McNeilly hosted the Land based Learning camp for grades 3-4 students. They were able to learn from Elders and Knowledge Keepers about a variety of activities. Elder Lorraine Albert shared her knowledge of a game called Snow Snake, Elders Cleo Reece and Len Hansen shared knowledge of Furs and Trapping and living off the land and Knowledge Keeper Claire Antoine shared how to make bannock!  Some students were lucky to get 25 cm of fresh snow to go snowshoeing as well! Thank you to Syncrude and Enbridge for their continued support.
