Incoming Freshmen

WELCOME

The Troy High School Instrumental Music Program is part of the Fine Arts Department.  Our program’s mission is to provide performance opportunities to students in the form of music, as well as, in dance.  Students have the option to join our groups:


Marching Band and Color Guard

Symphony Orchestra

String Orchestra

Wind Symphony

Symphonic Band

Concert Band

Jazz Band

Drumline

Color Guard

Guitar

Through these courses, students can receive PE and Fine Arts Credits.

Auditions

Auditions are for seating purposes in the string sections only.  All string players will be allowed into the Symphony Orchestra.  This same audition will be used to evaluate potential participation into the Advanced String Orchestra.  For other other musicians (flute, clarinet, etc.) the audition is for evaluation and potential enrollment into the symphony orchestra.

All Students must play a short piece or excerpt.  No less than 30 seconds and no more than 2 minutes.  In addition, at least two scales.  One must be concert D Major and the second is of your choosing.

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE

*****NO EXCEPTIONS*****

Sports, including Cheer, Dance, NJROTC, Marching Band, and Color Guard Must Register!

The Instrumental Music Program allows students to receive PE Credit in the fall semester through marching band and color guard.  Color Guard and Drumline continue to receive PE Credit in the spring semester, as well.

VOLUNTEERS

Chaperones, Drivers, etc.

 Fullerton Joint Union High School District requires the two page form (file at the bottom of this page) be completed and returned to Dr. Mynster's (principal) secretary, Mrs. Maria Williams before the school year begins. 

    -On the form, select box marked "Parent Classroom/Day Time Field Trip Volunteer".

    -No Fingerprints are required.

    -Complete and sign.

    -Form must be completed each year.

Warrior Band and Guard

PE Band and PE Dance/Color Guard are the official school designations for the Warrior Band and Guard.  These classes meet the PE requirement for graduation.  To better prepare us for the school year, the traditional BAND CAMP is scheduled for two weeks prior to the beginning of the school year.  This year camp will be July 29 to Aug 9.  It will run from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday thru Friday.  Aug 9 is our annual potluck in the evening.  This is a mandatory camp for all members of the marching band and color guard. 

Color Guard

As a member of the Troy Guard, along with PE Credit you may also receive Fine Arts credit with your participation and enrollment.  This year camp will be July 29 to Aug 9.  It will run from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday thru Friday.  Aug 9 is our annual potluck in the evening.  This is a mandatory camp for all members of the marching band and color guard. 

Symphony of Troy and Apollo Strings

Orchestra is the official school designation for both our orchestras.  This class meets the F requirement for graduation and the CSU and UC school systems.  An audition is required for both ensembles.  The audition for string players is a placement audition.  Any and all string players can immediately enroll into Orchestra.  Winds and Percussion MUST audition for entry into the course.  Auditions will be by appointment two weeks prior to Orientation before school begins.  We will have an Orchestra Parent meeting on Aug 9 at 6 pm which will go into our annual Instrumental Music Program Family Potluck.  If you have any questions, please contact me at jcastillo@fjuhsd.org.

Warrior Jazz

Jazz Ensemble is the official school designation for Warrior Jazz.  This class meets the F requirement for graduation and the CSU and UC school systems.  Auditions will be by appointment two weeks prior to Orientation before school begins.  Please contact me at jcastillo@fjuhsd.org.

PARENTS!!!

We need your help.  Every year, parents are needed to support the music program.  This includes, ticket sales at concerts, chaperoning bus rides to and from events, hauling equipment, etc.  If you are interested please click here for additional information.

Dates will be posted on the calendar page, including football, concert, and competitions.
