Orchestras
After a 20 year absence, the string program restarted in the fall of 2000 with an enrollment of about 40 students. Since then, the Symphony Orchestra has grown to include as many as 115 musicians. The orchestra also performs at concerts and music festivals. Enrollment into the orchestra is open, even for students with little or no musical experience. Some sections have limited enrollment (flute, clarinet, percussion, etc.). In the spring of 2011, the String Orchestra was added to the list of performance groups. This group is by audition only. At its first festival performance, the String Orchestra received a “Unanimous Superior” rating. A Superior rating is the highest mark an adjudicator can give a concert group. A “Unanimous Superior” means that a group received a “Superior” from all the adjudicators at a single site.
Auditions
For seating purposes for string players only. All string players will be allowed into the Symphony Orchestra. This same audition will be used to evaluate potential participation into the Advanced String Orchestra. For other other musicians (flute, clarinet, etc.) for evaluation and potential enrollment into the symphony orchestra.
All Students must play a short piece or excerpt. No less than 30 seconds and no more than 2 minutes. In addition, two scales. One must be concert D Major and the second is of your choosing.
