Ensembles

Whether it is marching in a parade, playing in a symphony, grooving with some jazz music, or dancing to the music, there is something for everyone.

The Symphony of Troy is a traditional full orchestra ensemble that engages Strings, Winds, and Percussion players.  Selections will include pieces from the great composers of the past such as Mozart, Beethove, and Tchaikovsky.  Modern film composers like John Williams and James Horner are a staple in the repertoire.  New music is always being explored as well.

Apollo's Strings is the advanced string orchestra ensemble.  This ensemble highlights some of the best musicians of the Instrumental Music Program playing music of such high calibur with great precision and sound.

The Warrior Band and Guard are the most visible of all these groups.  The marching band has between 130 and 160 musicians and 30 to 40 color guard members.  They perform at band competitions, parades, and various school activities such as football games and pep rallies.  All students that wish to join can enroll whether or not they have prior musical experience.  The only requirement is a willingness to work hard and have fun.

Warrior Jazz performs varying music in and outside the standard jazz median.  Whether it's swinging to the music of the Glen Miller Band or Duke Ellington, the soul of rock and roll like Led Zepplin or Metalica, or the smooth voice of Whitney Houston, the group will want to make you get up and dance.

Other groups include:

Wind Symphony - Advanced ensemble for Winds and Percussion.  Enrollment for 10th thru 12th grade by audition only.

Symphonic Band - A symphonic band setting for 10th thru 12th grade only.  Audition needed for seating purposes.

Concert Band - This ensemble is required for all Freshmen band members.  All 9th grade band members.  Audition needed only for seating purposes.  Spring Semester only.

Troy Guard - An extention of the marching band's color guard unit, the ensemble is the visual and dance component of any marching band.  During the spring semester, this group competes in it's own setting.  A basketball court becomes a stage for dance, flags, and pageantry.

Winter Drumline - An extension of the marching band, this unit includes marching drums and concert percussion.  They transform a basketball court to a drummers journey through music.

Guitar - Not a performance group but a course students can get the opportunity to learn the basics of guitar playing.
