The teaching of Religious Education (RE) is a statutory requirement of the Department of Education for maintained schools. It is taught from S1 to S5.
The Religious Education course at Europa School is based on the Oxfordshire Agreed Syllabus. Its aim is to encourage students to engage with issues of religion and spirituality in an open minded, systematic and academically rigorous way. Students investigate the six main world religions during the first three years. In the case of each religion, a significant amount of time is allocated so that the pupils are able to learn about each faith in some depth.
At Europa School students may opt out of RE and instead follow the Ethics course, known as Moral. As an alternative class to RE, the Moral or Ethics course is wide-ranging and focused on the interests, needs and development of the students.
In both RE and Moral students are encouraged to take up a charitable project, which brings awareness of local (or global) issues, and teaches them that positive action can make a difference in people’s lives.
