Matter
Definition: Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. (An atom is the smallest unit of matter.)
Mass
Definition: The amount of matter in a substance. (The mass is determined by the number and types of atoms making up that substance.)
Element
Definition: The simplest form of matter made of a collection of the same type of atoms. (There are two types of elements, monatomic elements and diatomic elements. Elements are symbolized with 1-2 letter codes. Only the first letter is uppercase.)
Monatomic Element
Definition: Elements that can exist in the world as single atoms. (All the elements on the periodic table are monatomic except for the seven.)
Diatomic Element
Definition: Elements that can only exist as pairs of identical atoms bonded. (There are 7 diatomic elements. They are hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine.)

Definition: A pure substance is a collection of one type of chemical.
Mixture
Definition: A mixture is a collection of two or more different substances that share the same space but aren't bonded to one another.
