SQ3R is a good fit for math textbooks since they nearly always include structural devices such as diagrams, definitions, titles, headings, examples, and questions - all of which help build understanding when surveying a text prior to reading. Encouraging students to write conceptual or comprehension questions after surveying the text reminds them that their math textbook is more than a list of separate skills but part of a larger set of related ideas.
