October learning

Primary 3/4 have taken part in lots of great learning opportunities this month and we are so excited to share them with you! Read below to find out what has been happening in our classroom.

Literacy

H looking for capital letters and full stops during our Punctuation Relay Race!

In Literacy, we have been working very hard on our sentence writing. We have been focusing on using capital letters and full stops. To help us with our learning, we took part in a number of activities including a punctuation relay race. As well as this, we have been learning all about writing letters. We started by looking at informal letters and we wrote a letter to someone we love to tell them all about Primary 3/4 so far. Then, we progressed to look at formal letters. We decided that we wanted to write a letter to Edinburgh Zoo to ask them some questions and tell them all about our learning of Animals.

"Writing questions in my letter was very fun!" - J

Numeracy

A & H playing division knots and crosses.

Throughout the school day, we have lots of different Numeracy and Mathematics targets to complete. We have been working on lots of different areas and in lots of different ways! Some of us have been learning about time by identifying time in 15 minute intervals. As well as this, some of us have been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10, estimate answers and how to add and subtract numbers with Hundreds, Tens and Units - this was challenging but we loved it! Finally, some of us have also been learning about how to use a calendar and how many days there are in each month.

We have enjoyed playing the games that we created as part of our homework to help us with our number work.

"I have enjoyed learning about division, I found that very fun!" - Y

Context Learning

L holding the skin of I's snake! Miss M wasn't as brave as L.

As you know, we chose to learn about Animals and we have loved doing this. I has been telling us all about her snake and she very kindly brought in the skin of her snake and allowed the class to have a good look at it and hold it. As well as this, we wanted to showcase our learning of Animals through Junk Modelling. We worked very well in our teams to come up with a design plan before starting. We quickly realised that our design plans might not always go to plan and that is ok! Have a look at some of our finished models. Can you guess which Animals we made?

"Junk Modelling was very fun because I got to work with my friends." - H

A's Happy mat!

Health and Wellbeing

Our focus in Health and Wellbeing has been Emotions. We have looked at a range of emotions and discussed how these can make us feel both physically and mentally. We particularly enjoyed learning about the emotion of happiness. We created our own 'Happy Mat' that we are going to keep in the class and whenever we feel an uncomfortable emotion, we can use this to help us find a way to make us feel a little better!

"I like that my happy mat has some of the things I love on it." A
