Lunar new year

Lunar New Year was celebrated across the school. Our Fantastic Primary 5 pupils worked hard to prepare lessons and they came to visit us every afternoon for a week to teach us about Lunar New Year. We took part in a range of activities such as learning Mandarin and drawing the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

World Thinking Day

Lots of us came to school in our Brownie and Beavers uniform for World Thinking Day!

Literacy

Wow, have we been working hard on our Literacy skills. As always, we have been developing our Reading fluency by reading every day. We have completed tasks related to our reading books too. Primary 4 are really enjoying their Novel Study 'Spy Dog.

The past few weeks we have been working on using connectives and conjunctions correctly. We are beginning to link our sentences more frequently during throughout our writing. Miss M is very proud of us.

Finally, you might have noticed that we're REALLY good at persuading people. We've been working on using different writing techniques to persuade our reader. One day, we arrived and our chairs had quit! They were tired of us treating them badly. We decided to write them a letter to persuade them that we'll be much kinder to them. Thankfully, they came back! Most of us didn't enjoy having to work without a chair.

Numeracy and Mathematics

This month, we've all been working on different things. We're all working very hard!

Primary 4 have been working on some very tricky calculations following the DMAS rule. We found this hard at first but now, we feel like DMAS experts! Miss M is very proud of us for persevering. As well as this, we've been working on developing our knowledge of measure by estimating the length, height and weight of objects.

Primary 3 have been developing their knowldge of multiplication and division. We now understand how we can use concrete materials to support us when working with these calculations. Some of us are even confident enough to answer word problems. Finally, a lot of us have also been working on our knowledge of money. We can identify coins and notes up to £50 and are beginning to calculate how much change we should receive.

Health and Wellbeing

During our Health and Well-being time, we have been focusing on what makes us unique and special. We understand that everyone is different. We even said that this makes life more exciting! We started to identify the things that make us special and what we love about ourselves.

During P.E, we have been developing our Hockey skills. We now know how to correctly hold the stick and pass the ball. Some of us are beginning to use these skills to dribble the ball too.

Finally, our Primary 6/7 pupils worked very hard to deliver a set of lessons to us about Anti-Bullying. We really enjoyed being taught by the older children and we think they did a great job!

OUr 'can do' curriculum

Primary 2,3 and 4 have been working together as part of our new 'Can Do' Curriculum. As a group we discussed and explored the Sustainable Development Goals and decided that we felt very passionate about 'Life Below Water'. After lots of discussions we decided we wanted to go on a litter pick in our local community. As well as this, we've all been working together in our Aitrum to create posters and letters to persuade others to do their bit for Scotland's Sea Life. We are very excited to have some of you in to visit for our 'Under the Sea Showcase'!

a special engineering visitor

As you will have read in January's blog post, we have been learning all about Engineering. We were very lucky to have a visitor from BAE systems. Richard came in to tell us all about his job and he even set us our own Engineering Challenge. We had to build a boat with a given budget. The boat that could hold the most marbles won! We all built better boats than the Engineer himself!
