Literacy

We're very happy to be back to school after the holidays (I think!). We have been deepening our Literacy knowledge a lot throughout the day. So far, we have been working on using speech marks. We worked to create a comic strip with speech bubbles, this then helped us identify which part of the sentence should go inside the speech marks. Some of us came up with some funny conversations!

Additionally, we have also been developing our poetry skills. We have explored a range of poems and had a go at writing our own! Similarly, we have been linking our learning to the real world by learning some Scottish Poems in the run up to Burns Day. Ask us and we might be brave enough to share them with you at home.

Numeracy and Mathematics

Wow! What a busy start to the year we have had. We have all been developing a range of skills throughout Numeracy and Mathematics. Some of us have been expanding our knowledge of symmetry by looking at regular polygons and irregular polygons. We have also been exploring our environment and using mirrors to help us find objects with a certain number of lines of symmetry. We had lots of fun doing this! As well as this, we have been learning how to create our own surveys online and display our data on a spreadsheet.

Next, some of us have been developing our knowledge of multiplication and division. We have learned a range of strategies that we can use to help us when completing these calculations. We really enjoy writing on the tables!

Finally, some of us have been exploring measure. We have been using a range of different materials to help us measure the height, length and weight of objects. We can identify the different unit of measurements and select the correct tool to measure an object. Miss McLauchlan is very proud of us!

Engineering

This block, we have been exploring engineering and the different disciplines of engineering. We worked together to research about the different areas of engineering and what they look like. Then, we decided we could link our learning to Health and Well-being and worked together to plan, design and construct an invention that would promote a healthy lifestyle. We started by looking at products that already exist. We're very proud of what we have created!

Health and Well-being

We have been learning lots about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We started by applying our prior knowledge of note taking to research what it means to have a healthy diet. We discovered the 5 food groups and looked into this further. As well as this, we worked very hard to create a poster detailing how we can stay healthy! Finally, we have been working hard during our P.E time to develop our gymnastics skills. The the children are much braver than Miss McLauchlan!
