Parent Council

Our Parent Council

The Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 makes provision for all parents to be members of the Parent Forum at a school, and to have their views represented to the school, education authority and others, through a representative Parent Council for the school.

The intention behind the legislation is to help all parents to be:

·         Involved with their child’s education and learning

·         Welcomed as active participants in the life of the school

·         Encouraged to express their views on school education generally and work in partnership with the school

The Parent Council for our school is known as: Carlibar Parent Council. They can be contacted directly on: carlibarparentcouncil@gmail.com

The elected office bearers are:

Claire McKechnie - Chairperson

-Vice Chair

-Secretary

- Treasurer

Staff Representatives from the Primary, CCC and Family Centre attend on a rota basis.

The Head Teacher attends all meetings as adviser to the Parent Council. Local councillors may also attend. Both have the right to speak, although, not being members of the Parent Council, have no right to vote. The Parent Council has a role in the appointment of Head Teachers and Depute Head Teachers. Nominated members of the parent council would be trained prior to any involvement in this process.

The Council meets regularly across the school year.

You can contact the parent council by letter, leaving a message in the school office or by approaching a member in person or at carlibarparentcouncil@gmail.com.

East Renfrewshire Council’s Parental Involvement and Engagement Census gives further authority information.
