Flipped Classroom

Flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom.

Screencasting

Screencasting can be used to create videos or presentations that students can view at home in order to take notes and best understand the material prior to attending the next academic class. This is used so that the instructor has essentially already "taught" the material and the class time can be spent answering questions, completing a lab or project or some other activity with the teacher as more of a facilitator.

Screencast-o-matic : Use this recorder to record on screen activity for short tutorials or visual presentations. The free version features: 15 minute recordings, screen and webcam recording, YouTube publishing, and saving on your computer. The Pro Version has more "bells and whistles" and costs $15 a year.

Screencastify : This is a Google Chrome extension and can only be used with Chrome. It is fully compatible with Google Apps for Education, Chromebooks and Google Classroom. Very easy tool to use! You can record edit annotate, store, and share video screen recordings. You can record a specific tab, or your whole desktop at the click of a button. Lite version is free and very capable for many purposes.

Creating Interactive Videos

EdPuzzle: Take already existing videos from You-Tube, Khan Academy, Crash Course, etc. or upload your own and enable self-paced learning with interactive lessons, add your voice and questions along the video. Know if your students are watching your videos, how many times and see the answers they give. Get started guide

PlayPosit: (Formally Educannon) PlayPosit is an online learning environment to create and share interactive video lessons. Teachers begin with any online video (Screencasts, Khan Academy, TED, etc.) and transform what is traditionally passive content into an active experience for students, with time-embedded activities.

Document Cameras

If you have a document camera in your room and it can be connected to your computer via USB cable you can use the document camera to place the image on your computer. Using screencasting software mentioned above you can record what you do on your document camera image along with an audio recording to create a video for at home use. See the example to the right.

Adding Voice to Powerpoint Slides

You can use the presentation tools in Powerpoint to add your narration to slides. This would be an easy way to present to students when they are at home. Students must have a device to open the slide show and this would be best distributed via a class website as Powerpoint does not always open with all the correct formatting etc... when it is opened in Google Drive.
