Hello & welcome to the return of K-POP Music Recommendation! Sorry for delaying the return of this segment, as I had other ideas for articles and wanted to touch upon them as I went through my suggestions, but nonetheless we’re back and ready to rock and roll! Last time on this segment, we had a Halloween-themed issue, so, of course, I had to talk about PURPLE KISS’s song "Zombie!" Now that we’re in the year 2022, I thought it would be time to celebrate what we all had accomplished during the pandemic by recommending a song that will lift up your morale! Now, here at the mic is Lourdes Miranda to talk about a well-beloved girl-group of this decade…IZ*ONE!
IZ*ONE was a South Korean-Japanese girl group formed through the MNET reality competition show Produce 48 in 2018. The group consisted of twelve members: Jang Won-young, Sakura Miyawaki, Jo Yu-ri, Choi Ye-na, An Yu-jin, Nako Yabuki, Kwon Eun-bi, Kang Hye-won, Hitomi Honda, Kim Chae-won, Kim Min-ju, and Lee Chae-yeon. In their time as an active group, they had two studio albums and seven extended plays! However, their time was cut short due to their contract only lasting 2.5 years. They disbanded on April 29, 2021. Let’s discuss how the album impacted IZ*ONE as a whole. When they released the highlight medley of the album, all was well. However, before they could tease the music video, they were hit with a scandal. Voting manipulation is present in Korea to this day, and IZ*ONE was no exception to that. Research showed that Produce 48, which was the third season of the South Korean reality competition series Produce 101, was a fraud! Someone higher up in the management messed with the votes of the final twelve girls to make them win the show. When the scandal broke out in November, they had to delay the entire album back to March of 2020. The morale of the twelve girls hit them like a ton of bricks. They were not sure if they were going to disband before their 2.5 years were up. Luckily, their management decided to not disband them early and keep going until their contracts ended in a year or so. “FIESTA” was the song that boosted their morale and gave them the hope that they were looking for. Today, we’ll be focusing in on their first studio album, BLOOM*IZ , with their title track “FIESTA!”
Here’s the music video to please your eyes with. How vivid and colorful!
English Translation of The Song (lyrics by JennyK):
After all the waiting, the time has come now
My weak, beating heart will open up, to the one and only you, love ah
I’m gazing into your eyes, pupils are dilating
The time has finally come
Every morning I say oh today will be a good day
And my dreams are not so far away from me, I’ll catch up
So I’ll throw a fiesta, just for me and no one else
I’ll think of the right time to party, maybe today?
When every flower starts to bloom, it’s such a pretty sight to view
they never will stop to grow at the fiesta, it’s the climax
Every moment is a gift, beautiful and dazzling, so don’t forget to raise your hands!
The party’s started
Fiesta, come again, my heart will be racing
The temperature’s increasing, I cannot escape the burning season
every single season is time for a fiesta!
Come visit again, ‘cause it’s my, it’s my fiesta
Get your invitation
It’s my fiesta
And starting from today, yes I will wait for the season to change up
Go run through the grass, shout to the sky, bet you’ll get your echo back
I’ve planned this for a long while, now I’ll make it happen
I think you’re someone special
Looking at the stars oh, I know tomorrow’s a good day
And I’m not afraid of what will happen anymore, yeah
So I’ll throw a fiesta, just for me I will never stop
The scent of flowers enveloping me once again
When every flower starts to bloom, it’s such a pretty sight to view
they never will stop to grow at the fiesta, it’s the climax
Every moment is a gift, beautiful and dazzling, so don’t forget to raise your hands!
The party’s started
Fiesta, come again, my heart will be racing
The temperature’s increasing, I cannot escape the burning season
every single season is time for a fiesta!
Come visit again, ‘cause it’s my fiesta
Closing my eyes, wake up when the party’s over
Can someone hug me so that I can feel better?
So that I can shine bright, my true colors in your eyes
Whatever I imagine will show you the real me oh yeah
The party’s started
Fiesta, come again, my heart will be racing
The temperature’s increasing, I cannot escape the burning season (ooh ooh!)
every single season is time for a fiesta!
Come visit again, ‘cause it’s my, it’s my fiesta
Ha, oh!
I’ll shine on you right now oh
Get your invitation
Feel like dancing now, I’m stuck in the moment
It’s my fiesta
Review
This song is basically about a person, either male or female, who wakes up one day in their bed feeling the need to party alone. They have that inspiration to aspire their dreams by attending their own, as they call it, “Fiesta.” Its alluded to that they decorated their own home with flowers ranging from many different colors. Overall, they had a pretty great time partying it up in their home. Now, we can make a text-to-world connection based on the story the composers are trying to convey. Although they did not mean to, this song could be alluding to the strains of COVID-19. Having the time of your life inside the confines of your home has strong connections to quarantining inside your house. I’m not here to talk about COVID-19, however, I do see that it’s important to explain how it could connect unintentionally.
The song itself is jaw-dropping! The visuals, vivid colors, and editing from the music video all impressed me! When I first heard the song, I was hearing it through “leaks” that came through YouTube when they were preforming it on “M COUNTDOWN” back in December of 2019 before COVID-19 hit the airwaves. I was immersed! The song hit home deeply for me, since I like to be by myself sometimes having my own little party! The song has several layers to it that conveys something mystical and magical. The melody is something I could dance to, especially with the chorus parts of the song. I could imagine yourself twirling to this dance in a field of flowers. That’s what makes this song addicting: it gives me the sense of finding your own place in life, but taking it one step at a time. To enjoy myself from the walls of my room for now, and dance like no is watching! If you're in the mood to party by yourself during quarantine, this song is the one for you! I give this song a 10 out 10!
This concludes our third edition of K-POP Music Recommendation! I truly appreciate everyone who has read my articles so far!
