New Game Plus

A New Game Plus, also New Game+ (NG+), is an unlockable video game mode which is available in some video games that allows the player to start a new game after they finish it at least once, where certain features in NG+ are not normally available in a first playthrough are added, or where certain aspects of the finished game affect the newly started game, such as keeping in the new game items or experience gained in the first playthrough. New Game Plus is also known as "replay mode," "remorting," "challenge mode," or "New Game Ex." The genre where they are most prevalent is role-playing games (RPG). New Game Plus is now in almost every RPG and it’s a neat feature for those who are either looking to get multiple endings or for an added challenge in the game. New Game Plus usually has extra tidbits to the game, such as new quests, events, bosses and endings.

In Final Fantasy XV, New Game Plus offers new quests, dungeons, and bosses. These events aren’t a part of the main game, only becoming unlockable in New Game Plus. In Danganronpa, New Game Plus is replaced with School Mode. School Mode is an event that is unlocked after beating the game once. This new mode is like an entirely new game, as it is almost completely different from the main game. Whether New Game Plus adds new events or game modes, there are times when it’s not needed in games. In the case of RPGs with one ending, there is almost no reason to start the game over because New Game Plus doesn’t add anything new to the game. In Xenoblade Chronicles, New Game Plus doesn’t add anything new, only a harder difficulty which is invalidated because you already have endgame gear and skills. In The Binding Of Isaac, after a certain boss is defeated, the option to do a victory lap becomes available. Since The Binding Of Isaac is a roguelike, there is no reason for New Game Plus to be in it, because that’s not how the game is played. A victory lap allows the player to start a new run along with all of the items and gear collected in the previous run. Even though New Game Plus doesn't add any additional content to the game, It’s still nice to replay the game without there being a chance to lose those hard to find items and gear that you have gained from completing the game. Even though New Game Plus is unnecessary and sometimes not needed when playing, It’s still a great system for starting a new game without having to worry about losing anything you have gained from prior saves.
