Venus Williams and Jackie Robinson are both important athletes for social change. Venus Williams is a talented tennis player. Jackie Robinson was a talented baseball player who changed the face of baseball forever. Venus Williams took on gender equality in tennis when she entered the courts in the mid-1900s. She won the Teen Choice award in 2001 and 2017. In 2003 she was awarded the President's Award 34th NAACP Image Awards. In 2006 she won Best Female Tennis Player ESPY Award and BET's Best Female Athlete Award. The William sisters made it a habit of collecting awards and breaking records while also creating a path that would lead to future female and racial equality in tennis.
Jackie Robinson and Venus Williams both excelled in the sports they played; receiving awards and recognition for their hard work. Jackie Robinson was a skilled baseball player. In Promises to Keep, by Sahron Robinson, on page 43 it says, " By the end of Dad's (Jackie Robinson's) first official year in the majors, his record spoke for itself. My father led the league in stolen bases and in sacrifice bunts and was second in runs scored. He played 151 of the 154 games that first season, all at first bases, and brought a new aggressive style to the game. The Sporting News and the Baseball Writers' Association named Dad Outstanding Rookie of the Year in honor of his hitting, running, defensive play, and value to his team." This tells us that he was a very good baseball player.
Jackie Robinson was a treasured baseball player and venus williams excelled in tennis. Jackie Robinson was a talented baseball player. According to JackieRobinson.org, “At the end of his explosive nine years as a Dodger, his record included a .311 batting average, 137 home runs, 734 runs batted in, and 197 stolen bases.” This shows us that Jackie Robinson was a very talented baseball player. Venus Williams was a skilled tennis player. According to Olympics.com, “It's not easy to faze tennis icon Venus Williams, and she says that's a major reason why she's experienced success, both on the court and off.” This tells us that Venus was a great tennis player.
Jackie Robinson and Venus Williams are figures of social change in their sport. They are both talented and dedicated athletes who helped break the color barrier in all sports. They are important because they fought against segregation and racism.
