Toni Harris and Jackie Robinson are important figures in America's social change. Toni Harris is the first women non-kicker on a college football roster Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in major league baseball. Toni Harris the star of football who broke the gender barriers first woman ever to land a scholarship to play defense. She has received multiple scholarships. She was the first woman who was a non-kicker on a college football roster in 2018.
Toni Harris and Jackie Robinson made a difference in their sport. Jackie Robinson was an accomplished major league baseball player. In Promises to Keep by Sharon Robinson on page 8, it says, "(Jackie Robinson) became the first African American to play in major league baseball in the modern era." This explains that Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball. Toni Harris also made a difference by playing college football. The website andscape.com it says, "The first to accept a scholarship to play football at a four-year college; not as a kicker". This tells us that Toni Harris was determined to be the first female non-kicker player. Also, they are both dedicated athletes. Jackie Robinson was a dedicated baseball player. In Promises to Keep, on page 29 it says, “Branch Rickey knew he’d chosen the right man. He knew that Dad had both the self-control and the courage to succeed.” This explains that Jackie could control his temper. Toni Harris was a dedicated football player. The website andscaoe.com says, “Harris never missed practice, never missed a meeting, never missed the weight room.” This tells us that she would always attend their team's practices.
Jackie had support from his family, but Toni Harris didn't. Jackie's wife, Rachel, supported his career. In Promises to Keep, on page 39 a quote from Rachel says, “During Jack’s baseball career I attended every home game.” This tells us that Jackie's wife was supportive by attending his games. On the other hand, Toni Harris did not have a supportive family. The website andscape.com says, “She was placed in foster care at the age of 4 and she ended up in three different homes by the age of 15.” This tells us that she didn't have support from her family growing up. Also, Jackie Robinson and Toni Harris played different sports. Jackie Robinson was an accomplished Major League Baseball player. In Promises to Keep by Sharon Robinson on page 8 it says, "Jackie Robinson is known for breaking the color barrier in baseball and his impressive record on the field." This explains that Jackie broke the color barrier in baseball. Toni Harris made a difference by playing college football. In andscape.com a quote from Harris says, "People don't want females in this sport, so if you want the chance you have to be so good that they can't ignore you". This explains that Toni was determined to be the first female non-kicker player on a professional football team.
