INSTRUCTION

INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES

How do we teach? How do we transact the curriculum in the classroom?

At CMR National PU College we believe in a collaborative, positive learning environment and a student-centric teaching process. Educators play an essential role in impacting the growth of cognitive, emotional and social skills in students.

Our educators transact the in-house curriculum, which is designed using the Understanding by Design Framework. Every instructional plan is immersive and inquiry-driven, has well-defined learning objectives, and includes concrete experiences to achieve these objectives. Multiple resources are included to ensure knowledge is not restricted only to books but beyond. Our educators use these plans, pedagogical practices, and strategies to make learning engaging and insightful.

Our educators use various instructional tools to cultivate students' thinking skills and dispositions and deepen content learning. These tools help scaffold and support student thinking. For example, tools such as K-W-L, 3-2-1, I used to think…Now I know…enable students to engage and explore concepts in depth, discuss and gain perspective, organise their thoughts, and reflect on their learning.

In our classrooms, we establish a learning culture by creating a safe environment of trust, respect and rapport.

Teachers use mindfulness practices such as centring and grounding to keep students alert and engaged. In addition, classroom management routines help students stay focused, attentive, on task, and academically productive during a class. For example, 'all eyes on me' and non-verbal signs such as 'time out' direct students' attention to the teacher.

We believe in a collaborative and positive culture, and our educators strive to make learning intentional and meaningful for every student.
