The English Capability Assessment is a short evaluation designed to estimate your English proficiency level using the CEFR framework (A1–C1).
This assessment helps determine which language-dependent tasks and worker pools may be available to you on Effect Alpha. Successfully completing the assessment may unlock new tasks available to you on the Effect Alpha platform.
The assessment uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), an internationally recognized system used to describe language proficiency.
Rather than assigning a simple pass or fail, CEFR estimates how comfortably you can understand and use English in real-world situations.
A1: Beginner
Understands basic words and simple phrases.
Can communicate at a very basic level.
A2: Elementary
Understands everyday expressions and familiar topics.
Can communicate in simple situations.
B1: Intermediate
Understands clear standard language.
Can handle most everyday communication.
B2: Upper Intermediate
Understands more complex conversations and texts.
Communicates with confidence and flexibility.
C1: Advanced
Understands complex language and nuanced meaning.
Expresses ideas fluently and precisely.
Using CEFR allows Effect Alpha to match workers with appropriate language-based workflows while maintaining dataset quality.
The test evaluates:
Reading comprehension
Vocabulary understanding
Grammar usage
Contextual language interpretation
The goal is to estimate your working level rather than measure perfection.
This assessment is not a test you need to study for, and it is not a pass-or-fail exam.
Its purpose is simply to estimate your current English proficiency so the platform can match you with suitable tasks. Answer naturally based on your current ability.
The assessment consists of 25 total questions:
12 Multiple-choice questions
8 Fill-in-the-Blank questions
