0.1 - The Importance of Documentation
Setting Up an ePortfolio
Your homework to complete before the end of class is simple, set up an assignment folder in Google Drive.
Follow the following, simple steps:
Log in to Google Drive with your student webmail, @EDUCBE.CA account (Ask your teacher if you can't remember it)
Create a folder that is named [YourLastName][YourFirstName]Robotics[Period#]Assignments
For example a Harmen Singh's folder may be, SinghHarmanRoboticsPeriod1Assignments (use underscores if the lack of spaces makes you uncomfortable).
If you are in Intermediate or Advanced, you may use your previous folder.
To do this let your teacher know so they can move it to your new class.
In that folder create an archive folder and move all of your old work to that so that it is easy to find things.
Share the folder with your teacher at:
MDWay@EDUCBE.CA
najaffer@EDUCBE.CA
File Names
Do you know what is hard to read? Anything named untitled document.
Please name your files appropriately using the #.# system on this site or with the project name if you are working on a bigger project.
Good file names:
SaltAndPepperShakerV2.stl
2_1_CADAssignment01.pdf
FloorplanSept18_2018.dwg
Bad File Names
John's awesome project.stl
untitled document.pdf
Cad Thingy.dwg
File Types
During this course you will be submitting work in a variety of formats but as a general rule most of your work will be submitted as a .pdf
PDF is a universally accessible filetype that displays the same way no matter what platform you read it on.
The exception for this is Arduino programs which should be submitted as a Google Doc or .doc file.
INO files are not acceptable because they do not allow your teacher to provide feedback.
Some of the advanced 3D CAD files may also be submitted as .stl files.
STL is a standard 3D model filetype.
Please do not submit .dwg files. They are very hard to give feedback on. You may have them in your ePortfolio as backup, but should be beside .pdf drawings.
Timesheets
With the proliferation of the gig economy keeping track of your own progress has never been more important.
In your assignment folder create a new spreadsheet and make it look similar to the Robotics/PreEngineering Timesheet
The purpose of the timesheet is to provide accountability for you and your work, as well as a place for you to reflect on what you accomplish this semester.
This timesheet needs to be filled out each day and will directly affect your Personal Management Competency Achievement. They will be submitted twice per semester in the appropriate D2L dropbox.
