Spelling Rule 1
'qu' sooky-la-la
'qu' sooky-la-la
Rule 1 refers to the phonograms 'qu'. The letter q is always followed by u and together they say kw such as queen. So we call the q 'sooky-la-la' because it can't live without u.
For example: queen, quack, quiet.

Special Note:
Not all words will follow the spelling rule. These are called exceptions. If 90% or more words follow this rule then this is still a great tool to help become a proficient speller. Language experience will deal with the rest.
