The following pages will each introduce one of the 31 spelling rules to help spell English words.
An explanation of the rule with examples will be provided and each will include a tutorial 'Boot Camp' video to support the understanding of the rule.
When the Spelling and Reading Tools are used with the spelling rules together, we can become problem solvers when confronted with unfamiliar words.
After reviewing each of the 31 Spelling Rules, complete the following activities below for each of the rules.
Select and re-read the rule explanation, review the example words and watch the Boot Camp video.
Use an online dictionary to search through a list of words to create a 10 word list that links to the spelling rule.
Can you find any words that are exceptions to the rule? (If applicable) List them in another word list.
Record the dictionary meaning for any words from the lists you do not know the meaning of.
Record all the prefixes and suffixes for 5 words.
Select and record 5 synonyms and 5 antonyms for 5 words.
Use the list of 10 words and each day practise spelling these using the Spelling Tools and check for spelling accuracy of each word using the Reading Tools.

After completing each stage of this program, the next step is to develop an understanding of the following:
Morphology of words - the study of words and their parts.
Etymology - the history of a word or phrase shown by tracing its development and relationships.
