Assessment of learning: designed to measure the learning growth achieved during the unit. Promoting students to have a growth mindset and use self reflection to evaluate their learning behaviours. An entry level and exit level assessment task is required for this style of assessment.
Accommodations: a change to a classroom activity or to the classroom materials in order to maximise student participation.
Common Assessment Task (CAT): a common form of summative assessments used across the College. Tasks will vary in nature across the learning areas, but have consistent form, assessment criteria, preparation and timing within each subject.
Curriculum modification: a change to the curriculum outcome the student is demonstrating to meet the learning needs of the student.
Differentiation: learning experiences in which the approach or method of learning is adjusted to meet the needs of individual students, focusing on the 'how' of personalised learning.
Formative assessment: ongoing assessment used to gauge a students understanding and inform instructional adjustments. Eg. class discussion, class work, quizzes and teacher observations.
High stakes assessment: an assessment used for assessing not only student achievement, but the College’s academic performance. Eg. NAPLAN, PAT or VCAA examinations.
Inclusive education: provides all students with equitable opportunities to participate in learning and educational experiences by catering to diverse learning styles and individual learners needs.
Individual Education Plans (IEP): an IEP is a living document that describes the adjustments, goals and strategies to meet a student’s individual educational needs so they can reach their full potential.
Moderation: moderation is the practice of sharing and developing understanding of what learning looks like by examining examples of different types and quality of students’ work and comparing these with formal standards and success criteria.
School Assessed Course (SAC) work: a SAC is a task that is written by the school and is completed primarily during class time Eg. essays, case study or data analysis.
School Assessed Task (SAT): A SAT is a practical or applied task that is examined by the school Eg. art folio, projects in technology or VCE VM course work.
Scope and Sequence: a Scope and Sequence provides a summary of what is being taught in a subject, the sequence it will be taught, an overview of the timing for each unit of work and the curriculum outcomes that will be assessed.
Standardised assessment: a formal assessment designed to measure a students ability compared to the standardised levels of achievement for their age Eg. NAPLAN, PAT testing, RVEAL, Essential assessments, CARS, Education perfect and fitness testing.
Summative assessment: an assessment conducted at the end of a unit of work, used to evaluate a student's overall achievement against the standard or benchmark. Eg. Exams, tests, Common Assessment Tasks and forms of standardised assessments.
