Moderation of student work is an expectation across the College to facilitate a consistent understanding and application of state-wide standards detailed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). By adhering to the practice of moderation, we can guarantee that all assessments are fair, reliable, and maintain a high level of consistency. This process not only safeguards the integrity of our educational system but also provides students with equal opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, whilst improving consistency in teacher assessment practices.
Year 7-10 Moderation
Where possible, it is recommended that teachers of students in Years 7-10 moderate CATs to ensure assessment practices remain impartial, consistent and align across the College. Benchmarking is the preferred moderation method to be used in Years 7-10 Eg. use of a common assessment criteria with defined and agreed standards of achievement.
VCE & VCE-VM Moderation
It is a VCAA expectation that teachers moderate a sample of all SAC assessments at the VCE level - for more detailed information, staff should refer to the College’s Assessment & Reporting policy.
This process has been established to provide quality assessment practices ensuring consistency, fairness and reliability across the College.
