READING: (Fluency and Comprehension)

This week in Reading, we will continue to focus on the comprehension strategy of finding the main idea and begin to focus on the comprehension strategy of summarising. 

Students will continue to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. They are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express their ideas clearly and convincingly. 

In our Storybook lessons, we will continue to explore a text called Zoo by Anthony Browne.

WRITING: (Persuasive)

This week students will continue to explore persuasive writing. Students will focus on the structure of a persuasive text by stating their opinion, articulating three reasons to support their opinion, and use connectives to organise their reasons. 

Students will also have an opportunity for free choice writing.

MATHS: (Multiplication and Location)

In Maths this week, students will continue to use multiplication strategies. They will explore multiplication using arrays, record the multiplication number sentence as rows x columns and solve them using times tables or partitioning.

We will also continue their lessons on location, by learning to move around a grid using directional instructions.

SPELLING and GRAMMAR

In Spelling this week, we will focus on:

• reading and spelling words that end in a consonant plus 'le'

We will be focusing on the tricky words: around, could and couldn't

 At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities: 

• Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.

• Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.

• Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities: 

• Child writes the word several times, saying each letter name as he/she writes.

• Child writes a sentence using the target word.

In Grammar this week, students will review verbs, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions.

** Differentiated learning will be present in each class to cater for all students individual learning requirements.

Wellbeing

This week we will be continuing our Respectful Relationship lessons! 

In these lesson students will continue to :

• practise ways to seek help from adults.

• practise ways to say what the problem is when they are seeking help.
