READING: (Fluency and Comprehension)

This week in Reading, we are focussing on the comprehension strategy of finding the main idea. Students will practise using the 'hints' to work out the main idea of various texts. 

Students will continue to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. They are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express their ideas clearly and convincingly. 

In our Storybook lessons, we will begin to explore the text called The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt & Oliver Jeffers.

WRITING: (Procedural)

This week students will continue to explore the features of procedural writing and experiment with creating their own procedural texts!

Students will also have an opportunity for free choice writing.

MATHS: (Multiplication, Division and Location)

In Maths this week, students will continue to explore multiplication and division. We will learn how to use halving as a strategy for sharing into 2 equal groups, use efficient strategies to know and recall 5 multiplication facts and learn how to solve problems involving multiplication.

Students will also continue to explore location, and will begin to  learn to create and interpret maps of familiar places. 

SPELLING and GRAMMAR

In Spelling this week, we will focus on:

• reading and spelling words with silent letters.

• reading and spelling words with the silent letter 'w'.

• reading and spelling words with the silent letters 'k' 'b' and 'w'.

We will be focusing on the tricky words: decided, know, where

 At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities: 

• Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.

• Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.

• Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities: 

• Child writes the word several times, saying each letter name as he/she writes.

• Child writes a sentence using the target word.

In Grammar this week, students will explore preposition groups.

** Differentiated learning will be present in each class to cater for all students individual learning requirements.

Wellbeing

This week we will be continuing our Respectful Relationship lessons! 

In this lesson we are learning  to solve problems and as a class:

• Students will think of possible actions to solve problems.

• Students will list the possible good and bad outcomes of different choices.

The questions below will support these conversations:

• Who has a problem?

• What is the problem?

• How might the problem be making them feel?

• What might happen if they don’t find a way to deal with this problem?
