This week in Reading, we are continuing to explore comprehension strategies. Students will continue to practise the strategy questioning. They will practise asking questions about the text before, during and after reading.
Students will continue to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. They are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express their ideas clearly and convincingly.
In our Storybook lessons, we will continue to explore the text called The Story of Rosy Dock by Jeannie Baker. We will focus on vocabulary, narrative elements and answering questions.
This week students will continue to explore poetry. So far we have explored cinquain poems, haiku poems and this week we will begin exploring colour poems and acrostic poems.
Students will also have an opportunity for free choice writing.
In Maths this week, we are revisiting place value.
Students will make dollars by combining 10 cent coins and rename notes into coins, using their built upon knowledge and skills of renaming and regrouping.
We will also continue our unit on Measurement, focusing on learning to identify suitable informal units of measurement.
In Spelling this week, we will focus on:
learning about the trigraph 'ear' and 'eer'
learning about the trigraph 'air'(hair), '_are' (beware), 'ear' (bear)
We will be focusing on the tricky words: through, every, only
At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:
Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.
Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.
Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

In Grammar this week, students will begin to learn about adverbs.

In Wellbeing this week, we will begin our RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education) lessons,
Our goal this week will be to name body parts. During this lesson, we will be:
Identifying private body parts by their correct name.
Saying whether a body part is ‘typically’ female, male or both.
We will also be discussing ways we can stay safe and which adults can help us when we need.
