READING: (Fluency and Comprehension)

This week in Reading, we are continuing to explore comprehension strategies. Students will begin to practise the strategy questioning. They will practise asking questions about the text before, during and after reading.

Students will continue to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. They are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express their ideas clearly and convincingly. 

In our Storybook lessons, we will continue to explore the text called Turtle's Song by Kim Michelle Toft. We will focus on vocabulary, narrative elements and answering questions. Our feature vocabulary words for this text are: pounds, shatter, feast

WRITING: (Self Evaluations)

This week students will be continuing writing their Self Evaluations. Students will be thinking and answering ‘What I am proud of…’, ‘I showed a growth mindset when…’ and ‘My highlight of the semester was…’

Students will also have an opportunity for free choice writing.

MATHS: (Place Value-Renaming and Measurement)

In Maths this week, we are revisiting place value. 

Students will record, partition, rename and count 3-digit numbers to at least 1000 using place value parts, using physical materials. Students will also explore standard and non-standard groupings using base 10 blocks.

We will also continue our unit on Measurement, focusing on  learning to identify suitable informal units of measurement for mass.

SPELLING and GRAMMAR

In Spelling this week, we will focus on:

-practising spelling words with the /k/ sound, using the spelling choice 'ch'.

-reviewing the rules with the /ow/ and /k/ spelling choices.

-practising spelling words with the 'oy' and 'oi' spelling choices.

 At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities: 

• Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.

• Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.

• Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities: 

• Child writes the word several times, saying each letter name as he/she writes.

• Child writes a sentence using the target word.

In Grammar this week, students will be learning about verb choices, and how this can improve a sentence.
