This week in Reading, we are focussing on the comprehension strategy of finding the main idea. Students will practise using the 'hints' to work out the main idea of various texts.
Students will continue to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. They are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express their ideas clearly and convincingly.
In our Storybook lessons, we will continue to explore the text called The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt & Oliver Jeffers.
This week students will continue to explore the features of procedural writing and experiment with creating their own procedural texts! They will be writing a piece on how to draw a secret picture!
Students will also have an opportunity for free choice writing.
In Maths this week, students will continue our multiplication/division lessons. We will learn how to represent division as sharing using arrays, and use counters and skip counting to represent a division problem, and choose an efficient strategy to solve a division problem.
Students will also explore location, and continue to learn to create and interpret maps of familiar places.
In Spelling this week, we will focus on:
reading and spelling words with the phoneme /k/
reading and spelling words that are joined together to make a contraction

At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:
Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.
Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.
Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

In Grammar this week, students will explore and use conjunctions.
